Engagement at lamplight - Offenbach's comic opera at the Szeged Cellar Theatre
It's a love affair on the cove.
The protagonist of Offenbach's one-act comedy is a money-grubbing young man who spends his days in his uncle's house taking in a young lady. In the young hearts, the flame of affection flashes quickly toward one another, but she is too shy to show her tender feelings, and the man is too greedy to notice the telltale sparkle in the lady's eyes. It complicates the situation, or raises the love affair to the cube, that the two nosy, cunning and purposeful women next door also look at the handsome young man and are able to use everything to get to him.
